Need help, 12v water pump - wire a wall adapter ? Bare wires.

So I have this water pump that is brand new but it came with just yellow and red wires. I guess I need to find a way to plug it into the wall so how would I go about finding the right parts and making this work?

Pump info:
Volts: 12V Nom. (9.14v)
Amps: 3.0A
Flow: 4.0 LPM
Press: 100PSI

Any help is greatly appreciated.
 
First of all, DON'T PLUG THIS INTO THE WALL! Not directly, in any case. If it is designed as a 12volt motor it is almost certainly meant to run off a 12 volt dc supply. I have pumps on my boat that are about this size, for pumping fresh water, and for pumping out grey water from the shower.

Your best bet is to get a car battery, or similar 12 volt supply, and test it on that. As it is rated to draw 4 amps, this is quite a substantial current draw, and you will need to find a supply that will deliver this - you would not want to try running it on dry batteries.

Normally these pumps are not continuously rated, and meant to operate on a limited duty cycle. Who made the pump?
 
I don't have a data sheet unfortunately

This pump I want to set up to run 24/7 with a float sensor, it will be draining a reservoir collector for my agricultural set up. I would need it to run several times around the clock.

A typical Chinese cheaply.

Yes it is DC,red most probably the (+) terminal.

Get a Wall-Wart of 12VDC (un-regulated should be fine).
It should be at least 3A ,so better go for higher,say 4A.

If 3A is the running current then the start-up/stall current will be much higher. A cheap 4A supply may not survive.
 
Yes, it will work.
There is no info of the adapter's DC plug size on amazon.
You will need to measure it when it arrives(inner an outer diameters),
only then buy the terminal adapter.

You might as well cut the plug off, strip the wires, and connect to the motor using a terminal block. It would be sensible to protect the power supply and motor with a 5A fuse.

I'd assume red is positive - the middle pin of the plug if you cut it off: the pump would probably run either way around, as it works by moving a diaphragm with an eccentric cam on the motor shaft.
 
Further thought: best to fit a coarse filter in line with the pump. Debris stuck in the valves will prevent the pump working.
