Motor and battery for hobby project?

Hello!

My 3 year old son are building a marble run mostly out of cardboard. We’d like to add an elevator to take our marbles back to the top. We can figure out the construction of it all, but have little experience knowing what type of motor to buy and what wires and battery or plug we would need with it.

Can anyone point us to a small kit or individual parts we can order to achieve this?

it will be carrying small standard marbles from the bottom about 3 feet up the side of a large cardboard box.

Most likely a dc motor gearbox unit.
Gearing and type would depend on your design, many are available.

It wasn't pointed at any particular motor/gearbox arrangement, rather simply what/ where.

I agree with a geared motor.

This is a small motor that should run from a phone charger or C, D size batteries.
Try and imagine the speed you require for the elevator and source a geared motor with appropriate RPM.
A great item for sourcing all you require is a broken printer.
Motors, drive belts, gears, spindles etc.

Thanks everyone! I'll look for a gearbox. I think 5-10 rpm should do the trick. I assume I would need some cables and an on/off switch to make this work? Is it simple to attached wires coming out of the gearbox to an on/off switch? This is all new to me

Yes, it’s very easy.
Have a look on YouTube. Here is one ( I haven’t watched) but there are hundreds.

You probably have most things somewhere around the house. Broken toy?.

Don't use smoke alarm batteries for motors, they don't have the capacity.
