Matrox triplehead2go power problem

Fault-finding that board is going to be a nightmare/impossible other than checking for the main device voltage rails.

You have a 5V supply from the USB port that is converted to 'various' other supplies for the other components on there and, in the main, it's either a 1.5V, 1.8V or a 3.3V supply you'll be looking for which should be on one of the pins of the SPX1117 device (triplehead2go-top.jpg, large square black, 3-pin device. It will have 5V on one pin, (some_other)V on another and a ground pin.

You could also check the datasheets for the other active chip devices to see what DC voltages they operate at and see if those are present where they should be - warning, don't short adjacent pins with your test meter leads or you WILL destroy the unit. You need only check for one voltage at the device as if it's present on one of the required pins it will likely be present at all the others.

If all the voltages are where they are supposed to be then without a schematic/board layout and sophisticated desoldering equipment you're sc3wed. If a particular voltage is missing then changing the appropriate regulator chip is quite possible using average soldering equipment and some skill/care.

Do some basic tests/measurements as above and we'll go from there.

thanks for your further feedback, having checked the voltages this morning the board has gone completely dead now. Don;t know why so I discarded it.
