LVM Aerogen 25

N

Nigel

I have an LVM Aerogen 25 that I purchased in the dim and distant past (mid
80's I think). At the time I never got around to fitting it and it is still,
unused, in it's box. I now have a new boat and would like to use it, my
problem is the Aerogen is 12v and my boat is 24v. Can it be converted or
would it be better to sell it and buy a 24v version.

I emailed this question to Aerogen and got the following reply.....
although it's not quite the answer I was looking for it's nice to find a
company that's interested in aftersale support.

Hello

Thank you for your enquiry to LVMshop.

In theory it is possible to change your 12V Aerogen 25 to 24V operation.
All you need to change is the stator which costs £70.52 and the regulator
which is £74.14
Both prices ex VAT. Delivery is 10 - 14 days to us.
We can not make this alteration. This is not a service we offer so you would
need to change it yourself, or find an electrical engineerto assist.

The more fundamental question should be is this a desirable change.
At 24V the Aerogen 25 has a maximum output of 2 amps, and this is generated
at 40 knots !

Given that most sailors today use far more power than even 20 years ago I
would suggest selling the Aerogen 25 and buying a new Aero4gen 24V or even
Aero6gen 24V. Details are on the web site.
Unless you have a VERY basic power requirement these newer models will be
much more suitable.
