Looking for help TV hunting.

Anthony Rinaldi

Hi guys

I do volunteer work at an Italian retirement home.

Their TV room has a crappy Akai 68cm television used mainly to receive
RAI (FTA digital satellite transmission from Asiasat2 as part of the
European Broadcasting Bouquet- EBB)

I've convinced them to let me choose a new television for them

So its research time and I'm looking for help :)

What I'm looking for is something that will give the best possible
picture for RAI.

Those that have seen any of the channels on EBB will know they look
*very* good. Heaps better than terrerestial channels. I guess being
digital explains that.

The digital satellite receiver they are using (and I cant replace it) is
a Panasat 520. It uses SCART but has cables with normal composite RCA on
the end.

They ocassionally watch terrestial TV, so *may* go for a digital tuner
and more frequently watch DVD so definately want widescreen.

Am thinking in the 76 to 86 cm range and must be CRT.

So what are people's recommendations as to brands and models to look at?
I've been given a rough budget of $2k to $4k.

Over to you :)

Thanks in advance,
Anthony

Just a thought - have you considered normal projection or rear projection?
May require a darkish room.

A subwoofer would probably reset the heart pacemakers!

I personally wouldn't recomend a standard rear-projection for a room that
will have a lot of people trying to watch the sceen. You've got to keep the
room relatively dark, and as soon as you move even slightly to the left or
right of the screen, the picture is much more difficult to see.

The only rear projection that solves this problem is LGs rear-projected LCD
screen, but it's over 8K. My previous TV was an 80cm Panasonic, and it was
nice and clear, and well within your budget.
