hi i am just starting my 3rd year in college and need help and suggestions designing a project to design,build and program.while i am fairly good at programing my knowledge of electronics lets me down. however i am eager to learn.i will be using an 8051 micro controller for this project
i have it in my head that i would like to do a project that could track the speed of a sprinter over a short distance. app 100meters. i had the idea that i could use a infra red transmitter/reciever and when the beam is broken a signal is sent back to reciever that causes an interupt in the microcontroller and is recorder. it would be desirable to have 2 or 3 of these sensors as to monitor his speed over certain distanes in his run
i was thinking of using a type of transmitter that is used for remote control cars?
i would have to have by infra red transmitters and recievers in seperate housing with there
own power supplies.
i will be attaching an lcd screen near the micro controller which is very straight forward.
i would be looking to connect a serial port to the micro controller to connect to the computer as i would like to be able to monitor succesive runs and distances
