log or lin for eq cut and boost control?

Hi,
Just wondering which potentiometer taper is generally used for the cut and boost control on an audio equalizer.
I know that for normal volume controls we use logarythmic taper but i'm wondering is this the same for let's say... a 'bass' control on a hifi amplifier which has a centre point aligned at 0db and allows the specified frequency band to be either turned up or attenuated accordingly.
Thank you

Hi Liam
I personally would use linear pots for my tone control. It also depends how you want your cut to work. Take guitars for example, some manufactures use linear pots for both volume and tone while others use log pots for volume and linear for tone.

If the pots are part of a Baxandall tone control network I think linear would be needed; otherwise you'd get a rather lop-sided effect with the boost range being much greater than the cut range (or vice versa).
