Hey folks,
Been shopping for a while for an auto/air power adaptor for my Dell
laptop. Finally decided to pay a bit more than some for a Lind
Electronics ("LLPwr" in Europe) unit. I'm out in the boonies so I have
to rely on web/mail order, and rarely get the chance to examine
something in the flesh before I've purchased it. I've quickly learned
that a few dollars saved on the price of an item can quickly be lost
on the shipping to return it when it proves less than impressive.
No such disappointment with the Lind adaptor. It's such a rare
pleasure these days to discover a product that imparts an impression
of quality the moment you pick it up. It has a simple extruded
enclosure with plastic end caps, a couple of jacks and a single LED,
but the the unusual degree of precision in the fitting of the parts is
obvious.
Of course, a nicely-executed case is hardly the complete measure of
quality for a complex switching power adaptor, and I can't claim to
have put the thing through any rigorous testing.
But I'm moved to post this testimonial because of what happened when I
sent a couple of technical questions to the manufacturer. I'm a tech
writer and I have some background in hardware design, so I have a
habit of sending annoying questions to equipment manufacturers. I
normally expect to be ignored.
Not only were Lind's replies prompt, frank and detailed, but after a
bit of discussion they offered to go well above and beyond the call of
duty and to exchange my fully-functional unit for one with custom
properties of a fairly unique nature.
From a purely technical standpoint I know that this wasn't a big deal
for them to do. However, it is extraordinary to have someone go that
extra step. I hesitate to mention it, lest I'm responsible for a flood
of similar requests, but otherwise I wouldn't have much of story to
tell.
Once upon a time this sort of service was common I guess, but it's the
certainly exception rather than the rule.
I have absolutely no connection to Lind Electronics other than as
described, and this account was in no way solicited or compensated.
