Is this thing a battery or something else?

This appears to be a button battery either soldered onto the board or glued in a holder. Or is it something else? What is the brown goop? Hot glue or leaking chemicals?

It’s from a 1990’s toy called a Kawasaki sax-a-boom. Currently there’s no audio output. I’m hoping that if this is a dead or leaking button battery, replacing it will get it booming again. It’s powered by four AA batts.
