Is My Daewoo TV Dead....Green Picture

G

GGHS 1981

Hello. I bought a 25" (I think) Daewoo TV last fall at Target. Up until tonight
it has been a great TV for the money. The TV was working great. The TV and
seperate VCR were both on. The TV was fine. I pressed play to watch a video and
when the tape started to play the picture was lime green. At first I thought I
had gotten ahold of a old VHS so I turned the VCR off. TV picture was still
lime green. I checked the color and tint settings......right where I have had
them all along. Back to the picture. Most things were green....sky on a
commercial was pink. TV still worked great...good sound..remote functions on
the TV screen were still showing up in blue...like they should. I turned the
color all the way down to a B/W setting so I could watch without going blind.
Even with color turned all the way down to just a B/W type picture there is a
pink haze in the left corners and a green haze in the right corners. The TV is
only about 8-9 months old. Yes it is on 12-15 hours a day....but shouldnt this
TV last longer than this? Any easy fixes or is this now just a B/W set? Thanks
Greg

The fault may be in the video drive or bias circuits to the CRT, or
the CRT itself may have failed.

This can be properly checked by the technician by taking the bias
voltage readings at the CRT elements, and by checking the video
waveform levels driving the CRT.

If the set is less than a year old, I would assume it is still under
warranty. You should take it back to the dealer with your proof of
purchase.

These sets will usually last about 20,000 to 30,000 hours before
failure. This should be about 4 to 5 years with average use.

As the original poster mentions what appears to be purity errors in the
corners of the screen (which could well be doming) could it be that somehow
the tube has become severely magnetised?

I've seen some really bad effects caused through a faulty degaussing
posistor, which can produce symptoms varying from reversed colours to a
total loss of one colour.

8-9 months is at the low end before a current el-cheapo brand tv would
need repaired, but not unusual. Assuming you tried adjusting the tint
control in the user menu and it had no effect, the tv needs taken into
a servicer that is willing to touch the Daewoo brand for an estimate
of repair.

Many servicers will not even bother taking in many of the low end
brands due to lack of manufactures support for repair with service
information or parts. So call and make sure the place you intend on
taking it has access to Daewoo service information.

You read my mind Ivan! The first three sentences into this guy's
post, it hit me - degausser circuit's gone AWOL.

In my case about 6 years ago a fine 20" Samsung of mine got a
green/orange tinge to the upper LH corner-the same corner of the set
to hit the floor when the FREAKIN' AV SHELF COLLAPSED! Put the
degausser in that corner pretty much outta business.

<PS and don't even ask me just how that shelf collapsed!> :p
