Is Bombardier selling the Evinrude line off ?

There is a rumor that Bombardier is selling the Evinrude line of outboard
motors to anyone that will buy it. I am worried that their 7 year warranty
won't mean squat if its gone again. Rumored too was Ranger Boats wanted to
buy the high end big motors but they won't piece it off. Has anyone heard

Hi Larry, I don't own one yet but was thinking of getting one of the 75 Hp
outboards. I am was deciding between the Merc or Evenrude. What problems are
they having with the Ficht's I wasn't aware of any? The boat show is this

Do you REALLY want to own an engine where if you don't install the spark
plugs in just the right way, it blasts the heads off them 20 miles from
the trailer "up the creek", so to speak?

One guy I found was told he needed a new computer for his Ficht, over
$4000! That ALONE makes Ficht a no-buy to me. The damned computer NASA
uses on interplanetary space launches is the only "computer" that costs
more! $4000 for a fuel injection computer? Is it made of solid
Palladium?

Well Butch I tried the link and searched google and there is nothing showing

The guys at the boat show have acknowledged there is trouble with
lubrication and it turns out Penske is the one that wanted to buy the etech
technology. When things go wrong they go really wrong and expensive. When
running right there great. They own part of Detroit Engines which are 2
strokes so who knows where the marine line would end up if they are
successful in their bid. Their transport truck people and racing. The high
pressure line delivery is still a concern from people at the boat show. One
of my friends got burned on the extended warranty when OMC went under on a
50 4stroke first hand - the engine never failed though! So I am leaning
towards a 75 Merc 4 stroke at this point. These engines are too expensive to
be part of an experiment of shareholders and technology. Anyone have
thoughts on this? Alan

Thanks Butch lots to read there now :<) The Penske information is from the
boat show people as you said can't be trusted as proof. Usually there is
some truth to rumors just not sure how much so I thought maybe someone would
have heard of it. The boat dealers carry both or access both engine lines. I
posted in this group because 99% of posts are about boats and not snake oil.
The bulk of the information of bad things are from earlier motors and it is
2006 now which has given them 6 years to figure things out. I must admit it
looks like they had a fairly dismal start from the other posted links. I
feel sorry for the people that got nailed on the early models. It really
isn't fair when the motors are so expensive now. Like motorcross bikes that
use to cost $1200 are now $6000 still with no warranty out of the crate - a
bit of a leap in faith. Alan

Obviously I have no axe to grind over the final engine choice you
make. I own no stock in BRP. You were seeking information and got a
what I personally know as a FICHT owner for the past eight years.
There are NO out of the ordinary FICHT issues. On the used market
there may well be some FICHTs for sale which were not factory updated
when that service was offered. I believe the 150 and 175 HP early
FICHTs had problems requiring updates and sometimes new power heads.
ETECs have been performing more or less faultlessly from day one.

Horseshit....company horseshit. It STILL requires very expensive lube
oil and specially-indexed spark plugs to keep the blowtorch injection
from eating the head off them. It's STILL A FICHT!, no matter who owns
the company at the moment or what their ad agency contract says.

What surprises me is why Chevy and Ford haven't abandoned 4-stroke
engines and put Ficht or Optimax engines in the cars! They use less
fuel, require almost no maintenance and are just wonderful to own! We'll
probably all be driving Ficht Hondas and Fords by 2010 with such
wonderful technology....(c;

Now, let's look at a little reality looking forward from today:

1) They're all ABANDONING 2-STROKE ENGINES.

2) With the abandonment certain, why would anyone buy a 2-stroker noone
will admit they ever made, say, 3-5 years from today? Where's the parts
going to come from, blown powerheads which are abundant?

I'm with the poster....get the 4-stroker....
