is an astable multivibrator circuit a pulse generator or does it just behave like one? Is it possible to buy one if it's too complicated to design it?

I'm not sure how it could behave like one and not be one.

Depending on what you want, the design may be quite simple.

So, what do you want? (output voltages, power, rise time, fall time, duty cycle, etc...)
