IPC-A-610E IPC Soldering Standards?

Hiya! Does anybody know anything about these standards? I was going to enter a hand-soldering competition but they are going to be judging by these standards and they want $110 to buy them! Seems weird to me that they won't tell me the rules of the contest unless I buy them from IPC.org

Sounds like a ploy to make money.

Forget standards - do it as well as you can (and as fast if thats what the competition requires).

One thing I have found though is that the choice of solder makes the world of difference. I was using cheap lead solder before then I switched to this high quality 5 core stuff with no-clean flux. It flows so well and it shines and everything before is a total mess in comparison. The old stuff wasnt even good enough for tinning my iron.
