Installing Eagle on a Windows Vista SP1 Computer

C

Clive Tobin

Here is how I managed to succeed finally in installing Eagle on my E-
Machines Vista SP1 computer:

1. Download and save in the usual way.

2. The program will not install using the Run button on the Download
box. Close the box.

3. Go to the Download section of the computer and find the Eagle
download.

4. Right click on the download, select Properties, select Windows XP
Compatibility.

5. Click on the Eagle download and it will install correctly, as near
as I can tell.

6. Under Accessories, Windows Explorer find the Eagle file and the
Application (.exe file I suppose). Click on Make Shortcut. Move the
shortcut to the computer screen.

It is odd (to me) that the program will run okay under Vista but not
install under it. ? But I am hardly a computer geek.

Any reason you posted this to s.e.misc
instead of the logical place (sci.electronics.cad)?
You might also mention Cadsoft.

....and as an acronyn for Easily Applicable Graphical Layout Editor,
EAGLE is properly written in all caps.

I am not familiar with that other group, I did a search and this one
came up.

Sop what did you actually search for at google?

Mention of the program? Something about CAD (though likely those
three letters alone would provide too many results to be a useful
pointer)?

Even when you find this newsgroup, you'd find pointers to others
in the hierarchy. The mere fact of sci.electronics.misc suggests
there may be other newsgroups, so if you click the "electronic" bit
at google towards the top of the page, you will see the full hierarchy.

Bsides, .misc is for anything leftover, which also indicates there
must be other newsgroups.

There was a time when everyone coming to Usenet were told to read
any given newsgroup before they post, so they can get an idea of
what the newsgroup is about. ANyone reading this one for a bit would
wonder where all the traffic is, which is also an indicator of how
there must be other newsgroups. For that matter, it also makes
one wonder why people post here rather than elsewhere, since virtually all
the posts here would better fit elsewhere.
