humidifier hums when plugged in but turned off

I just received an air-o-swiss 7145 humidifier, and it hums when plugged in and turned off. I don't think that it has any components that should be on when the unit is turned off, which makes me suspicious that something is wrong with it. Unfortunately, tech support won't be open again until after the holiday weekend, so I thought I would give the question a shot on here. Anybody have any ideas? Thanks!

humidifier hum

Hi there. what you say sounds like power is getting through even when off, its might be a switch problem on the unit, if you have limited knowlege in mains circuits i would let a service engineer deal with it. Dave.

Thanks, Dave. I won't be messing with the insides, that's for sure. Just wanted to see if there might be a reason for such buzzing that didn't indicate a malfunctioning unit.

Typically, the hum would be the transformer inside the unit.
Tech support might consider taking it back.
My guess would be poor lamination job in transformer construction, or maybe even
loose fasteners holding the transformer down. Or broken housing screw-holes where
the fasteners attach the transformer to it's support (like shipping damage).
Just another opinion about what might be happening.
