HP Deskjet Printer Problem (kinda old unit)

Hi!

Exposing the conductive material with a sharp knife and using a conductive
ink pen or maybe even a rear window defogger repair kit may work to fix your
printer.

If not, the very same part you need is (IIRC) common to the entire DeskJet
600-series line. You might be able to get another from a scrap unit.

I have a HP 697C Color Deskjet Printer that malfunctioned recently. I
believe I found the problem with it, but don't know how to correct it.
Unfortunely, HP no longer sell the part I need, so replacement is not
an option.

The problem is in the power switch keypad "ribbon cabler". This is
basically a piece of plastic with etched copper traces on it. There is
a break in one of the traces leading to the "power switch pad". I
would like to know if there is a way to repair these "plastic
ribbons". Soldering on them definitely does not work as I have tried
and melted the open even wider now (probably a dumb idea to start
with, but I tried it anyway).

If someone could point me in the right direction, I would be very
grateful.

TIA

trace that wire to were it conects to, and
ad a new length of hookup wire, solder it
in place of the old one.
