How to limit solar charger current

I have 12V/6A readymade charger its schematic is not available with me.
I have 12V/40watt solar panel its short circuit current is 2.64 Amp and i have 26AH sealed Lead -Acid battery.
I am worried that due to charger current capacity it can damaged my solar panel in future or not.
and for that i required some external precaution to limit my current to 2Amp or 3 Amp.

Let me reframe the query.
At any instance lead acid SMF Battery can accept up to maximum 20% of current capacity. For 12V/26AH battery, it will be 5.2AH.Solar battery charger can pass upto 6A current as per its specification. Take a case where we connected 12V/40Watt solar panel (which can give Max. 2.66A current) and 12V/26AH Lead Acid SMF Battery to solar battery charger. Do you think that any time solar panel may get damage due to excess current (>2.66A) requirement by battery? If yes, what we need to protect solar panel in such condition?

The solar panel cannot deliver more than the rated current. Is more current is drawn, the output voltage will fall and thus current.
Of course, the best method is to limit the current within the charger. If you try to limit the current externally that will interfere with the operation of the charge.
