How to control a microcontroller through a wireless signal?

The title explains my question. Im looking for someone to tell me how to control a microcontroller such as the Axon mote (http://www.societyofrobots.com/axon_mote/) through a wireless signal. How do you connect a receiver to the microcontroller?

The specific product you linked to appears to be made to be wireless? Briefly looking at the product, it appears to require two units (one to act as local, one to act as remote) in order to set up the wireless system. I could be wrong.

The Axon mote has its own Zigbee wireless system.

I have asked the society of robtots, no reply yet. If I wanted to use the axon II which does not have a transceiver, how can I connect to it through a wireless signal? I need to get 3000 feet of range
