How many minutes per gigabyte, please?

J

Joe McElvenney

Hi,

Please excuse this OT posting. I have looked for another news
group but couldn't quite find what I need.

My brother has bought himself a digital video camera that
produces video clips as well as stills and is hoping to take some
videos with it on his upcoming holiday. Can anybody tell me how
long, in minutes say, he would expect to be able to shoot using a
1GB SD memory card? I believe that the camera shoots clips at 320
by 240 pixels but, as I have no idea of the compression algorithm
used, cannot do the arithmetic.

Any help would be appreciated.

WEll since you didn't:

1. Tell us what camera he has, or

2. What compression is used,

3. RTFM which would tell you the answer...

the best answer I can give is "a whiles" or perhaps just a little bit
longer.

The camera's manual should have a chart that tells you how many
minutes, along with the number of photos at each resolution/memory card
size as well as the maximum size of memory card that the camera can
hold. If he doesn't have a user's manual look for the manufacturer's
website and download one.

Why not take some video at home before you go, and see how long they
are?
