How can i link a PIC with a camera and an SD card?

Hey guys. I am a freshman electrician and wondering how can i command a camera to save a picture on the SD card using a PIC? Or is there an easier, and at the same time cheap solution?
How are these things even working? I was browsing the web but didn't really find anything related.

You have not included any info on the camera or sd card however there are many "reasonably easy" projects using Arduino with code using i2c.
