Household Power Adaptor NA to Philippines

Hi all.

My wife is Filipina and we live in Canada. She wishes to buy a computer and ship it to her family in the Philippines.

Here in North America we are on 120 VAC, 60 Hz using plug types A & B.
The Philippines uses 220 VAC, 60 Hz with plugs A & B.

So, the only difference is the voltage. Does anyone know of an adaptor that we can put on the end of the power bar plug for this computer so her family can use the computer in the Philippines?

Check the power supply in the computer (and the monitor, etc.). If it says 90-220V or has a switch for 110/220 Volt operation you're fine to go (subject to setting the switch in the latter case).

If neither of these applies, the solution is a new power supply (probably the easiest) or a big heavy transformer.

Almost all computers power supplies I've seen recently come with "universal" power supplies capable of operation on 110V or 220V. Ask when you buy, and preferably sight the power supply(s) to reassure yourself that the salesperson isn't misinformed or [insert polite word for lying].

Thanks for your help! Why didn't I think of that before?

I checked the computer power supply and it takes 110-220 V with 50-60 Hz. The power supply has no 120-240 V switch I can see. Same thing for the monitor power supply for V and f specs. So, I guess it's good to go.

Yes many of the modern switchmode PSU's take a wide range of voltage without the need for a physical switch near the mains input socket
Others, as Steve said, do have switches

BTW, where in the Phil's is your wife from ? My wife is from the city of Iloilo on Panay ~ 45 mins flight S of Manila
