Hot battery and draining quickly

For my first project I made a portable phone amplifier that I found on Instructables. I ended up using a bigger IC because the LM386 wasn't available to me at the time but it's similar, just more grounds. So the 9 volt battery gets super hot, I'm talkin burn your hands if you touch it, and it probably get an hour of life at best. I think that I'm drawing too much current? Also, what would the solution be?

yup sounds like high current drain

The 9V battery has a very low supply current rating ~ 200 - 300 mA
its quite possible your circuit is trying to draw much more than this

Can you do a link to the instructables page for that project please
circuits on that site are notorious for being really bad designs
and there may also be faults that are causing excess current draw

Theres the link to the instructable. I did not follow it 100% because of the IC so it very well could be a fault of my own. Let me know if you can tell if its me or the instructable. Thanks!

OK, so I don't see a circuit diagram there
not really interested to signing up to the site just to get it
if you have that pdf construction info file, you could upload it here or put it somewhere accessible and give a link to it :)

so you haven't said what IC YOU have used and we had better see some sharp well lit pics of your construction so we can check it over :)

cheers
