Hi all. I have been in the alarm industry for almost 20 years...installer,
svc tech, sales, owner, etc. My elderly stepgrandfather recently lost his
wife (my grandmother), and is living alone in a small town. He gets around
ok., but at 86 yrs old, I know it would make him and us feel better if he
had a way to communicate in an emergency.

I've noticed a small speakerphone type console that is advertised on several
of the "medical alert" sites which appears to be a re-branded
speakerphone/dialer of some sort. Does anyone know if there is a supplier of
these devices, or are they proprietary only? I'd like to buy and install one
myself, and contract the monitoring to a specialized CS. Thanks.

Those things aren't much better than garage door openers.
If you want to do it right, check me out here www.medi-call.ca and drop me a
line. I have an Inovonics Rx with a DSC 1555 dialler in a box, you can
program it yourself to hit whatever station you like. I don't use two-way
voice... if they can't answer a ringing phone, they're in trouble.
