Home Depot fail

Looking at a piece of lumber, I noticed the dimensions of this board are larger than my truck can haul. I really gotta get me one of those 96' x 48' trailers.

haha... how many different ways do they need to show a dimensions for a piece of 1/8" thick, 48" x 96" board???

You should call them and get someone there to tell you what the 'Actual Product Length' is... it's missing from the specs sheet.

I can see why simple home projects confuse some people... You throw 11 different measurements at them in a mix of inches and feet while dealing with length, width, height, thickness, and depth. You only need 3... maybe 6 if your client base does not know how many inches in a foot...

I'm guessing you mean 96"x 48" or that'd be one huge trailer.
They often cut lumber slightly longer than nominal size. So it could actually be 97 inches long.
Yes, HD is known to have terrible descriptions. I always bring a tape measure with me to be certain.
You're right on that. Depends on the board though.
I find MDF/Particle boards are usually 97" x 49".
Plywoods and veneered boards are 96-1/2" x 48-1/2".
And import plywood tends to be almost on the dot 96" x 48".

Of course this varies largely based on the supplier. I've done a number of years in a cabinet shop... It's quite the pain in the arse when you plan something based on the larger board size and end up getting shipped a smaller board size. Your yield takes a serious hit because you can no longer cut two lengths of board at 24" wide on most CNC machines with unless you get that extra inch of play-room.

Knowing what I do, I know that they meant for it to be in inches. However, they state that the nominal length and width is 96 ft. by 48 ft.

Someone probably fat fingered the keyboard when entering the specs. Either that or they said "hey, hold my stapler and watch this!"

Actually HD should be congratulated for their ability to supply 'Artisan Lumber' at construction lumber prices. After all, Artisan's who create oddly shaped objects get a real time saver with HD lumber.... It's sold 'Pre - Warped'! I marvel at all those the graceful bows, cups and twists. The best part is they don't charge extra for it!!! :p

I see CDRIVE and I experience the same issue. Isn't it a pain going through a shelf full of 50 pieces, trying to find
two that are semi-straight?

I must mention that I was there this past weekend and saw that there was a pallet of 3/4 plywood on the bottom shelf. The top two pieces were absolutely shameful. No one should have to witness that.

Their prices are higher than lumber yards, but they do surface at least one side of dimensional lumber. Running it through the jointer takes time.
If I want framing lumber, HD is convenient.
If I want furniture grade lumber, it's my last choice.

I know how you feel Shrtnd, I feel a bit sorry for the stock keepers who have to continually have to straighten the racks in that store.
