high current variable power supply from ATX PC supply?

Is there a simple way to make a computer power supply variable and maintain
high current? I keep seeing designs that use LM317T's, but they're limited
to 1.5 A or less. I'd like to be able to retain as much of the current as
possible but keep it simple. Thoughts?

Hi Jan,

Thanks. This is a Dell HP-P2507F3P and/or Dell 1E115. Unfortunately, I
can't find a schematic of this on the web, so perhaps you or someone else
might have some suggestions. Anyway, there is a pot inside but without
knowing what it's for, I wouldn't want to start turning it.
