HH Scott 222C Restoration Advice/Info Needed

Hey guys, I recently bought a Scott 222C Amplifier that is in superb
physical and cosmetic condition.

BUT, it is blowing fuses.

I powered it up using a variac, and light bulb, and the light bulb
glowed ever so brightly...

I tested the transformer with a vom, and indeed it is shorted.

(The transformer is marked TR12-3-1)

Some of you veteran tube gurus may have restored one of these, and
maybe can give me some pointers on what to look for ???

IIRC, there is a triple electrolytic capacitor with a positively charged
shell. These often fail and may have sorted out.

To fix one, I removed the old guts, tar, etc. and dropped in three discrete
caps and wired them to the old pins. Can't tell by looking . . .

Have you disconnected all the secondaries incase there's a short in
the amp? If there's a dead short across the primary it might be worth
investigating inside the transformer. It's possible that there's a
short where the wires go into the transformer case, or where they
connect to the winding.

It will be very difficult to find a replacement transformer for such
an old amp. Your best bet would be to look on ebay for a junker that
uses the same power transformer. You could also look into rewinding
it.
