help with potentiometers

Im making a bi directional speed controller from a kit 166. I want to replace the 100k potentiometer with a joystick potentiometer but can only find 5 and 10k joysticks at reasonable price. How easy would it be to change the circuit to allow use of a lower value potentiometer.
Any help appreciated.

This is just a voltage divider, so keeping the same ratio should be OK.
giving for a 10K Pot R1=10K and R2 = 1K
The tricky part is that a Joystick will not allow you to use the whole track resistance.
Only, let say +/- 20° will be available on the 270° of the inside pot. So little tweak to plane.
