I moved into a new house, and got an alarm system as part of it. I've
never had one, so I thought I would try it out first with just the
audible, and decide later if I really want to pay for monitoring
service.
After a lot of effort and phone calls, I seem to have figured out
roughly what I have and how to use it - It's a DSC, and on the
computer board in the basement it says 1555-50/50, among other
markings. By the front door, my panel is a PC 1555 RKZ. There is a
picture of it in here:
http://www.adt.ca/pdf/manuals/pc1555v2.3_eng.pdf
Which is one of the manuals that seems to be relevant (not sure if I
should use PC1555 v2.1, v2.3 or MX, but they all seem quite similar)
The problem is, I finally figured out that the code that the owners
told me is probably NOT the master code, but one of the user codes. I
can arm/disarm with it, but if I try to use it as a master code when
following PC 1555 instructions (found on web), it gives me a long beep
and the lights go off, and I can't continue trying to do the master
things (such as changing the master code!)
After reading the manual, I tried the code 1234, thinking maybe the
previous owners of the house never figured out that they should change
the master code, and instead just created themselves a user code,
which is the one they told me.
It turns out 1234 also arms/disarms - but also doesn't work as the
master code!
I believe then it must have also been entered as a user code for some
reason by someone!
I read more postings and I tried 1555 and 5555 to see if they were
master codes. The thing is, I don't know what "installer codes" are,
or "installer lock-our" or what they are for.
I would appreciate any advice. I also read in that thread that there
is a way to hard reset the system with access to the box in the
basement, and it sounds like that would solve my problem by resetting
the master code to 1234 - but since I now know that "installer codes"
and "installer lock-outs" exist, and I don't know what they do, I'm
worried that it might kick in and lock me out completely.
I'm not trying to cheat any alarm company - just use what I have
fairly purchased without the monitoring service, but with the
complication that the person I bought it from didn't give me the
correct master code, I believe.
Thanks in advance for any help,
Dan
