Help Understanding Thermistors

I have a TTC-802JS NTC Thermistor and I want to check it. Could someone explain the characteristics of this.

Zero power resistance at 25 Celsius: 8 ohms

B-value at R-25/R-50: 4050 (K)

When I test it at room temp I get approx. 6000k resistance. If I put power to the circuit for a second or two and then power down, I recheck the value and it jumps into the meg-ohms. This doesn't seem right. Could someone please help me with understanding this.

802 indicates it's 8000 Ohms at 25 C, not 8 Ohms (you missed the k there, & added it to the 6000 instead).
At 65 C it should measure around 1000 Ohms. NTC means resistance drops with temperature.
Measure voltage before you try ohming. If there's any voltage still present the ohms measurements will be thrown way off.
The other resistors present in the circuit will also affect the readings somewhat.
