Help on finding a DVD player that does surround sound

image.jpeg hi.. So I'm sure this is a dumb question... I need to find a DVD player that will hook up speakers for surround sound. I recently just moved into my own place and was given a bunch of Panasonic surround sound speakers.. Unfortunately I only own a Xbox... I have a older Panasonic flat screen tv.. Just not sure what would be cheap to buy and hook up all these speakers to. Ha

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!!image.jpeg

Hi Damien,
It looks like your surround system is powered, so it already has an amp.
Any DVD player will work with it.
What inputs does the woofer have on the back?
What is the model number? The picture is blurred..

I think he's going to have to ditch the sub...
I see speaker terminals, and what appears to be a proprietary socket on the back...
It's not uncommon for the 'brain' or DVD player to use a special plug to connect to the powered woofer... seen it a number of times and it irritates me every time.
Other than ditching the sub, the OP should look for the same Panasonic DVD player that originally came with those speakers.

I agree with your statement Gryd3.
However, it is only a connector that (some cases) powers the DVD player, and all that is left is the audio!
Doesn't take a rocket scientist to work out the left and right channels. The 5.1 amp does the rest.
The OP hasn't replied with the model number yet. But I bet it's very easy!.

Let's wait and see :)
I see 5 speaker terminals on the sub, and that larger socket...
I wonder if the larger socket is simply a collection of pins providing analogue signals or if it's using a digital signal? +1 on hope for analogue signals.

Take a look on page 14 here.

The 'system cable' is that larger socket labelled 'A' on your sub-woofer.
It's a 25-pin connector which is literally twice the amount of pins required to simply pass 5.1 Audio. (6-channel)
Perhaps they doubled up on some of the conductors, or many are unpopulated?

Regardless, you have four options now that I can think of:
- Buy an SA-HT790V DVD player.
- Buy a complete SC-HT790V system (Will include speakers and sub of same model#s)
- Try to buy a replacement 'system cable' and attempt to splice the cable to feed analogue audio into it.
- Take apart the Sub-woofer/Amp and inspect the other side of the 'system cable' socket to see if you can add your own audio inputs into the Sib-woofer/Amplifier.
