Help Finding Backlight Illumination Minature Lamps

Hello All,

I am fixing up a Sony XR-1750 car stereo for a friend of mine. The display had gone dark and I found that there is a pair of small incandescent lamps in the LCD display that are supposed to illuminate it. They are connected in series on the pc board so I am assuming that they are 6 to 8 volt bulbs. One of the bulbs was burned out but the other lit very brightly from the bench supply at 5 or 6 volts.

I found some similar lamps made by Chicago Miniature but they only have 5 volt and 10 volt versions (from Mouser). I found data sheets from other manufacturers listing 6 and 8 volt bulbs but they seem to be discontinued. These are T1 size bulbs and have wire leads that solder directly into the pc board. The light is distributed through a translucent plastic block to the entire LCD display through this block.

I ordered and installed the 10V lamps (CM 7218) assuming that the 5V would burn out too quickly and it works, but the display is too dim even at 14 volts from the bench supply (approx. 7 volts per bulb). I did not order the 5V versions so I cannot test them.

Does anyone know a source for 6 to 8 volt T1 wire lead incandescent lamps? I do not think LED's would work because of how the light has to be distributed sideways in the block unless I can remove the block and modify it somehow.

thanks,
Dave
