heater controller alternative

I am a newbie. On one of my machines has a siemens Statotherm heater controller that has gone bad. Its function is to intermittently on and off a contactor that supplies power to a heater. There is a dial to control on off time or heat. There is no input feedback.
What type of controller is it called. Any alternative? I tried thyristor controller. But I will have to change wiring and bypass contactor

It looks like the snubber circuit is not in a good shape.
The resistor lloks burned and I can not tell you things about the status of the capacitor.

You are right. I already removed snubber. Still it doesn't work. Google has just one result for me. It is only for repair. No diagram, nothing. Just says percentage controller. Actually, it switched on and off when it was working, thereby controlling heat.

No schematic to be found.
Are you capable of opening the unit?
If so, post some pictures of the inside.

After covid vaccination and holidays I was able to go to factory and open it. I also found another working piece. It seems to my limited knowledge that it is a bimetal type and a cam attached to knob is missing (since I bought the used machine).
Anyway, I bought another brand at a cheap price and think it will work)

I have replaced many electro-mechanical furnace and oven controllers using PID controllers (available cheaply on Ebay), switching a SSR (Solid state relay). Usually a lot smaller than the old controller, and you can set limits, alarms, etc on the new solid state ones. They can be configured to take various input temp. sensors. Most of the industrial stuff used a K type thermocouple.
