Heat Shrink Tubing

I am new to electronics, and I am creating some small projects. I am wanting to buy some heat shrink tubing, but not sure what size I should get for just basic general electronics.

I don't want to buy a kit that has multiple sizes, since I am only working with small components and little wires.

Can anyone recommend a standard size that I should get?

The size that fits over your wires and parts and will shrink to the appropriate size... Measure your parts and get the suitable size...

There is no such thing as 'standard' size... I have a drawer full of it from 3/32" up to 2" (unshrunk size) most of it in 2:1 shrink ratio (most cost effective) but some of it in 3:1 or 4:1 and 6:1 shrink ratio... Also some is adhesive lined when that is needed, or double walled when that is needed...

If you are in the US, I get a lot of my general purpose stuff from here... It's very thin walled but it still works well and it's not overly costly to get a bunch of sizes and colors...

The smallest I've ever seen is 3/64" (If they make smaller, I don't know what it is).
I use this on TO-92 Pkg transistor leads and 1/8W resistor leads. It works good for that.
My package says Pro Power (Formerly SPC), FPS-003-4025-BLK (1.169mm ID)
In a store, I'd ask for 3/64" shrink tubing.

When color isn't needed for cosmetic or color coding purposes, use clear tubing so you can see what's under it.

Unless it's going to be exposed to UV where the use of any colour than black should be made with caution.

Yes, as a practical matter, most use of clear tubing is inside enclosures and most others will be black.
