They are both inputs. Page 8 has an example of how to use the mute input.

I imagine you could do something similar for the standby input.

Do you want to use either feature?

i don't need the features, what exactly is the standby supposed to do?

If you don't need the features, tie both inputs to +5V.

Standby puts the amplifier module into a low power mode (effectively turns it off).

What else can I do to improve the quality of the sound?
Its datasheet shows that it produces low distortion if you keep the output per channel less than about 12W per channel into 4 ohm speakers. Simply turn down the volume until you do not hear any distortion.

24W with low distortion sounds only a little louder than 12W at low distortion. 120W with low distortion sounds twice as loud as 12W with low distortion.
Because our hearing's sensitivity to loudness is logarithmic.
