Grundig Radio, Satellit 2400 Professional, LCD display on the blink

Hi Group,

Well not really on the blink

I've inherited the above model radio, and I'm wanting
some help to fix the LCD frequency display on the radio here are the
symtoms.

Radio seems to tune on all bands Ok,
LCD display has two faults,

1. The upper segemtns of the display are fadded ( fade in and out,
but by changing the viewing angle you can see they are operative )

2. In FM mode the frequency display is correct 100% but when you
switch to AM (any band ) the frequency display jumps all over the
place and does not bear any resembelence to the band or frequency
tuned )

I've removed the board wich contains the LCD unit and resoldered all
the joints with no luck, I've also cleaned the contact from the LCD
board to the LCD rubber, with a little succeses.

I have the schematic for the radio, but am not sure ( limited
knowledge ) how the frequency driver IC works, need a description of
this would be handy plus any other help.
