Gold-coloured areas on laptop circuit boards - gold or pyrite?

I'm taking apart some broken laptop screens I received for free so I can get the CCFLs. I figured I'd also retain any gold plated connectors which I want to save until I have enough to recover the gold and buy a burger! There are some things that are gold-coloured but I wouldn't expect to actually be gold-plated, but maybe they are? What about these circles in this photograph, below? Gold or something else? They look like some kind of contacts for testing purposes.

Here's a photograph with things that would be mental to cover in gold like reinforcement for a screw hold and lettering...

..... or fill your garage with identical boards and get enough scrap value for Big Mac for Mom and Pop, and happy meal for all four kids. You might even be able to "go large" depending on how big your garage is

Gold edge connectors - cut off - might be more worth the effort of recovery, but that tends to work for large quantities of antique electronics rather than anything modern.

My advice is to either pay a specialist firm a small fortune to dispose of your board in an environmentally responsible way, or just hide it in the trash can and hope nobody notices (I always go for the second irresponsible option)

Your local waste disposal facility probably has an area for you to dispose of domestic electronics waste. Mine does in Edinburgh and my mum gets hers collected fortnightly in Cheshire.

Yes, I just love to drive 2 miles to join a 10 minute to 2 hour queue (good day compared to Sunday/bank holiday) to dump my old electronics.

Looks like I need move to Cheshire (especially since I like cats and cheese). What is the weather like there?

I get the point though - if you want to recycle - take your board to the recycling centre, where it may give benefit to somebody somewhere. Sadly, I am just too lazy/human ...
