Frequency to Voltage Conversion

Hi there!

I want to get a voltage reading that is proportional to the speed of a motor. A sensor outputs one pulse per revolution of the motor. Would a frequency to voltage converter (connected to the sensor output) work for this task? The circuit involved looks quite complex so I wanted to know if anyone has had experience of this before I start building it.
