Fluorescent fixture quality?

G

Hi folks,

I'm shopping for 48" T-8 flourescent fixtures for my garage/workshop.
Home Depot here has a brand called "Lithonia" which are rated down to
0 degrees.

The price is right but I have never heard of the Lithonia brand. Has
anyone knowledge or opinions of their quality?

My ceilings are 12' and I'm not, so I don't wish to be changing out
fixtures too often :)

Thanks, Gary

Lithonia is a very widely known U.S. brand. They market industrial,
commercial and residential lighting fixtures. I don't know what their
market share is currently; but for commercial/industrial markets it has been
in the range of 40-50%. They manufacture mostly in the U.S. (Conyers, GA)
and sell through electrical distributors as well as the "big box" retailers.
Lithonia is one division of Acuity Brands http://www.acuitybrands.com/
Other brands in the Acuity organization have a more international approach
than has traditionally been the case with Lithonia.

Lithonia quality, from my experience, is excellent. A house I built 3 years
ago is full of Lithonia fluorescent fixtures -- no problems so far.

Note, however, that what goes wrong in a fluorescent lighting fixture over
time is typically related to the lamps or the ballasts. Lithonia doesn't
make those although they decide which ballast to supply with their fixtures.
You decide which lamps to buy, of course.

Terry,

Thanks for the information. Just what I needed.
