Flash, EEPROM, PROM or external storage?

In a project of a small computer using an ARM720 MCU with built in
sdram and flash controllers, what is the cheapest storage solution for
8-32 megabytes? Most designs Ive seen use flash, but I thought EEPROM
was cheaper. I havent seen PROM in sizes larger than 2MB either. Is
compactflash cheaper than boot block flash chips?

Only in very tiny sizes (<1Mb)

I don't think anyone still use PROM.

I expect so, for large enough sizes.

Suggest you use a "boot block flash chip". I suspect that your ARM
cannot boot directly from compact flash anyway (I may be wrong here, I
don't know much about CF or which ARM variant you have for that matter!).
