(FAST) Finding the right power supply for an old boombox

Hi
I got this boombox , a SONY CFD-565 and it uses 8 d-cells (1,5V) that equals 12 V
I want to "inject" 12 V with a power supply , but I don't know how many amps the radio uses

Will a 12V 1A power supply work ?
on the service manual , it says at power consumption : "AC 28W"
also , should note that this is the american version and it uses 110V , that's why I want to inject 12V , to not buy a 220V - 110V step down transformer (I'm doing this for a friend and he wants the cheapest way)

The manual states 'power consumption 28 W' which translates (osses in the power supply neglected) to 12 V / 2.3 A.
However, the manual you linked also states that this box has an integrated AC power supply. All you need is the mains power cable.

Yes , I have it , but here in Europe we use 220V AC and I need a step-down converter to bring it to 110V AC so that the integrated AC power supply does its job .

The AC power supply will not be 100% efficient so the radio is will use less than 28W. Also the batteries would not last long at 28W input.

12V regulated at 1.5 or 2A should be sufficient. Depends on how much sound you want out to annoy the neigbours.

I'll bet it does not pull 23w at 12v

23/12 = 2amp supply in which i bet it puls 1 to 1.5amps, just turn the volume down and slowly crank it up while getting a multimeter to measure the current draw...

But it is sony maybe it will touch around 18w
