Fairy lights rewire ?

Hi,
I have a chain of Fairy/Christmas LED lights and I like the except the just cycle on/off flash/slow glo etc...there is no button to alter the sequence.

However there is a small enclosed plastic box from the mains wire where I assume all the switching electronics are. Would it be possible to by pass this altogether? or even be allowed to choose my flash sequence? Any ideas how to go about this?
