Encrypted RF Signal?

I have a requirement for an rf transmitter/receiver setup where the receiver is to respond only if a certain code is transmitted or if the transmitted signal is encoded/encrypted in a manner that only a receiver with the matching circuit/hardware can receive it. I would appreciate it if you can direct me to resources/circuits/hardware that can address this requirement.

Range? Frequency? Security level?

There are many dedicated encoder/decoder pairs that are designed for use with such systems.
