Emerson 40' won't turn on

The set was off during a lightening storm. Would not turn on afterward. Replaced fuse , no help. I read that the problem may be the power board but I don't want to spend $50-$60 and then have it not work. Prior to complete failure the back-light came and went, pic was bright then dimmer. I think the 2 things are related. Does anyone have thoughts or experience with this set/problem.

Hi Rick,

well i had a similar issue on a big Toshiba LCD TV. Lightnings can destroy several things (tracks, diodes, transistors, resistors ..), and can also change resistor values. It took me more or less a month of nights spent on it, but was a challenge and a learning experience. At the end i replaced several components and reconstructed some tracks here and there and got it working.
This doesn't mean the same happened to you, but, the repair could not be that simple.
