Electronics for robotic arm

ok so I am an arduino fan cos I suck at soldering.
but anyway I am hoping people can help me out. I have the following design in my head
raspberry pi - USB hub- arduino 1 -motor controller and rotary encoder, the last 2 will be repeated for each segment of the arm. can anyone tell me any issues they see from this.
currently I am looking a 8 motor/encoder ends. the encoder will be used to detect angle of movement. arduino will be a mini or nano. motors go from 2.33kg/cm and some will handle 2 motors, the controller is already selected. lastly I will put in a home switch on the nano so that the arm has a reference point
