Electronic dog whistle

S

Shane Kirkman

Hi ,
Dose anyone know of a circuit for a annoying electronic dog whistle I
could make.
I am surrounded by 12 dogs with in 4 houses of my place.
These dogs bark constantly day and night, and I thought it was about time
for me to annoy them, preferably by some electronic device I could make,( as
I am learning electronics I thought it would be a worthwhile project.)

Did a bit of googling but haven't found much yet.

Thanks Shane.

Either Electronics Australia or Silicon Chip did a 'Woofer Stopper' a
few years ago. Check the SC website and look through their indexes.

Oatley Electronics had a kit, suggest you give them a call or check
their site.

When I was 16 years old I built a push pull valve audio amplifier and
fiddled around with different levels of negative feedback. The thing
oscillated nicely at well above 20KHz so that no human could hear it. It
must have pumped 20 watts into a speaker. Dogs all around the block started
howling. I should have left it on for a week just to see the final result !

On a technical note, I would recommend those piezo tweeters, because they
are extremely efficient. If you were to put 10 to 40 volts peak to peak to
peak into one of those tweeters, it would be far louder than my 20 watts
into an ordinary loudspeaker.

I think the idea with the dogs is to use the sound as negative
reinforcement. Every time the dog barks, the nasty high pitched sound must
start. The dog learns that he can prevent the sound by not barking.
