Electronic dimmer connection

I have acquired a brand new lamp dimmer of unknown brand, but no
instruction sheet. It has the slider and a separate switch on the
front. Incidentally, the markings look Spanish!

It has four wires: Red, Black, Green, Yellow. What are the
connections? (Green is ground of course.) I have downloaded
instructions for several US-brand dimmers but none have these colours.
Some use no connection to the white neutral (two wire connection, like
a switch), others have a white wire to neutral (for a three wire
connection.)

Check to see if the switch comes out on two of those wires, in which case
the dimmer will be a 2-wire type. If it really is Spanish, is it 240VAC
operation? It's a brave assumption that green has to be earth.

It's for the NA market. I should have mentioned some markings, viz:

"Precaucion:"
"Unicamente cable para instalaciones edilicias normalizado para 75 deg
C."

The green goes to the metal frame, so it is ground.

A quick continuity check shows NO connections affected by the switch
position.

Spain used to have some 110vAC supplies. And Germany used to use RED
for ground!

The green goes to the metal frame, so it is ground.

A quick continuity check shows NO connections affected by the switch
position.

Here's a schematic of a 3-way dimmer. It's just a 2-wire dimmer with a
SPST switch.

Ummm.. do you have a capacitance meter?

If it's a similar circuit to the one shown, the black should be the
hot, and the other two (non-ground) wires should be connected to the
switch, one way or the other. If you feel lucky you can connect it in
series with a lamp and try it out..

I have actually done this and it works as a two-wire dimmer, but I
have one spare wire (yellow.) The switch works, too.

I have seen one like this where Yellow was the other side
of the switch.
Black AC in (one side of switch)
Yellow Switched AC out (other side of switch) and hot side of dimmer
Red Load side of dimmer
Green Ground

UL doesn't show a match for the file number you listed above, but it does
for file number E220795 , which leads to this page -
