Edgestar ap12000hs-1 thermostat not working

Hello,

I'm new to this forum and not very experienced when it comes to troubleshooting/fixing electronics and small appliances. I have an Edgestar AP12000HS-1 portable air-conditioner and heater. I recently pulled it out of storage and turned it on to the heater setting. Upon turning it on, the thermostat shows the correct room temperature, the heater turns on and it begins to put out warm air. However, the listed temperature immediately starts rising and after just a few minutes the temperature on the control-panel screen exceeds the maximum temperature setting and the heater shuts off.

I've looked through the owner's manual, removed the outer casing to look inside and searched the internet but I'm unable to identify the problem and a potential fix. I'd prefer not to have to purchase a brand new unit for something that's potentially an easy and cheap fix. Any suggestions and advice are welcome, and I'd be happy to provide additional info or post photos.

Thanks!

The temperature sensing and display is clearly working, so the fault lies in the control circuitry which should regulate the heater power.

Thank you to everyone who posted a response. I removed the main cover and the casing for the control-panel circuitry. I attached a few photos.

I don't see anything that looks displaced or unhinged. I do see a little rust and corrosion but I'm not sure what the component is and whether it's anything serious. Let me know if you have any further insight.

And in further expounding upon the "Obstructed air flow" does the air that is being moved seem excessively hot and at the circulation velocity that was experienced back at normal operational times ?

Unfortunately the user manual does not include a schematic, and the only troubleshooting tips are related to the air-conditioner not putting out cold air. I went online trying to locate a schematic but had zero luck.

In terms of air flow, the exhaust house is clear and I did my best to remove any and all dust buildup on the inner workings. I've run it since and the same issue occurs.

There are 7 relays in the first pic. If one switches the heater, it may have welded-closed contacts or its coil may have gone open-circuit. If you disconnect the heater from the relay you could try doing a continuity check on the relay.
