DVR newbie help question

Im setting up a 9 camera DVR (SuperCircuit DMR-9)

The problem is, the picture on the tv is scribbly and I can barely make out
the menus and camera views.

Does the DVR have the wrong kind of output to view on a TV? The same thing
is happening with the rca out cameras, run into 'video in' on the tv

Heres what Ive tied:
-From the BNC out, I installed an adapter to RG6 for input to a TV. Tried
all channels, with the same result for channels 2-5. Same result in Vid1
mode.
-BNC to RCA, to "video in" on tv
-BNC to RCA, to "video in" on a vcr, to RG6 out to tv.
-Tried another DVR unit.


Any ideas would be appreciated

Modulator? One of those boxes for hooking up a dvd player to an old tv?
Composite outputs on that DVR ~...you need to go into a monitor...or use a
modulator to go into a TV.

All you need is, a BNC cable from the output of the DVR, thats BNC on
both ends, then use a BNC-RCA Adaptor, and plug that RCA into the AV
input on the TV. To view the Video, switch your TV to one of the Video
Inputs until it appears

To view on actual channels, you need Cable to start with, and a RF
Modulator, and using that method while it is simpler for multiple TV
viewing (less overall wiring), is not as clear an image as direct input
into the AV on the TV, using RCA.

also, if you have done it the way i stated, and it is still bad, it is
then either a TV or DVR issue. I havent come accross a DVR doing that
yet though, but I have never heard of the DVR you mentioned, except for
the SuperCircuits name which is simply a reseller not a manufacturer.

By the way, you dont need RG6 from the DVR to the TV, though it may
work, that could be your problem right there if you are using a RG6-RCA
connector. Change it to RG59 or even you can use a RCA cable with a BNC
adaptor to the DVR.

Thanks. The modulator worked.

The dvr is a cheap generic knock-off, branded with the Supercircuits logo.
Next time I'll spend a little more and get one with svideo out.

thats the AvTech one from Asia. EclipseCCTV also has their label on it
in miami.

We sell this as the rockbottom DVR, as its the absolute cheapest one
around .. But it is neat, and looks better than most cheap DVRs;
was it this 9 channel you got?? Its not bad as its a multiplexer, and
is only $50 more than their 4 channel quad version. so we only sell
this. I dont know what 399 pounds is in US$, but im selling it for $830
in the Bahamas after 45% customs Import Duty plus $150 shipping, and
included is our markup for warranty.

Except for no LAN, i still like it. Ofcourse it doesnt compare to the
Kalatel or other DVRs, but still, cant beat the price, especially 9
channel. In the end, it does the job.
The next step up is the HiSharp w/ Lan, then midrange something like
the Nuvico, then the higher end DVRs like Kalatel, DM, etc...

Gee, that web site doesnt give the client much options, its all low end
products, its always important to give the client a choice and let them
know the differences between a dead cheap product as opposed to the
more expensive products. In CCTV, you get what you pay for, but too
many resellers do not understand this, and think an OEM camera with
480TVL and a Sony Chip, is the same as say a Panasonic with similar
specs for example, and they are dead wrong.

Thanks to everyone for being so helpful.

This is not the equipment i would have chosen for the job. They had their
sales guy select the equipment spec'd on price alone after browsing through
a catalogue, and then they went shopping for an installer. Obviously, an
experienced installer should have been involved from the start as a
consultant.

Im under contract for the installation. I now have to make the best of a
job that wasnt planned from the start.

Only 12 stores to go!!! Yippie!!!
