Good evening, I am new here on this forum. I am looking for some advice for my bench power supply. Currently it is run using a Radio Shack switching power supply rated at 13.8VDC 25A which is ran out to a bridge rectifier, then to a few distribution strips. it then powers a few devices constantly (Scanner and router) and then also has a car stereo for the obvious music for well working at the bench. I am wanting to add a couple of batteries to the system for back up I will most likely be using automotive batteries as I have a few decent ones sitting around. I had one hooked up in parallel but it seemed to boil over so I am thinking I need to isolate it from the power supply and run a seperate charger to the batteries. i was looking to use a separate Bridge rectifier with appropriate ratings. I was going to build the charger myself until i got a little confused looking at the datasheet for the IC chips that I received. I have 3 UC3909 PDIP chips from TI that i was looking to use and i was going to supply them from the 13.8V power supply but I am a little confused on what other parts i will need if someone has a parts list and schematic that makes sense to someone with enough electronics knowledge to get by with small projects or any other suggestions on how to proceed on a limited budget that would be greatly appreciated.
