DSC 832 bell cut-off doesn't disable alarm

S

Sal

My mother inlaw entered my home the other day (she didn't have the
alarm code), and the siren was on for 15 minutes befor shutting down.
Now the bell cutoff is set for 5 minutes. Anyone know why the bell
cutoff didn't work? Is there another setting that over rides the
cutoff?

Thanks.

How do you know how long the bell rang?

not 100% sure on this, but does the bell cutoff only apply to the bell
outputs on the board? couldnt the installer, donno why, used a PGM to
trigger the siren of which wouldnt use the same cutoff?

That's possible. I've done that myself to separate burg and fire on a 5010.

I ran wires into my basement to test the horn, so not to disturb the
neighborhood. The siren was running for 8 min. before I keyed in the
code to shut it down. I then set the cutoff to 1 min. armed the system
and set it off. The siren ran for 1 minute, then momentarily paused,
but then restarted up. The siren is wired to the bell terminals. Got
any ideas?

Thanks,

Is there someone upstairs tripping the motion detectors?

The bell cutoff time is per zone.
If she kept triggering other zones then the siren would reset to 8 minutes
again so it is possible that it went for 16 minutes.

Just read the post again. I mean reset to 5 mins again and possibly again if
a third zone was triggered.

If you don't wait at least 2 mins (or is it 10 secs) after the system fully
arms before tripping a zone, the system will think it's an exit fault and
sound the siren instantly, dunno if the siren cutoff time has any effect on
how long the siren will sound.

That is the answer. She would have tripped at least 3 zones. Thanks
for all the replys.

Without swinger shutdown or its equivalent, the panel would continue
resetting this timer every time a zone was violated, ad infinitum. If
she did not leave and stayed there, that's the problem. If the bell
eventually stopped sounding, the panel may have exceeded a swinger
shutdown limit and began ignoring the zone that was being continuously
violated.

Try violating a zone, waiting for the bell, then going outside. The
bell should shutdown in 5 minutes. It will reactivate as soon as you
enter and violate another zone, however.

Goof proof arming is 10 seconds.

Of course the siren cut off time has and effect on how long the siren will
sound. Thats why its called the siren cut off time. The exit fault you are
talking about. We havent been told which panel the person is using and not
all have exit fault.

I do believe that the subject line mentioned that the panel is a DSC 832.

5 minutes can seem like 15 minutes if you have to sit thru it.
The bell, if indeed is set for 5 minutes, should turn off. If you
leave a door open or start walking around without punching in the
proper code, the thing will start up again until the proper code is
entered. Perhaps she should head for the washroom, sit down, and stay
there until help arrives!!! LJ
